Eight paintings of allegorical figures, representing concepts important to the
people of Michigan, look down from within the dome. The capitol sits on grounds
as inspiring as the elements within, including the nation’s largest catalpa tree.
A statue of Austin Blair, memorializing his devotion to the Union cause during the
Civil War, dominates the space outside the east portico. Please note that the capitol in Lansing does not have the Capitol Collection stamp. Upon request, they will stamp your book with their own capitol stamp. General information: 517-373-2353 or 517-373-2348 The capitol is open for self-guided tours from 8-5 during the week. Share your comments with us! We visited this Capitol this week and had a very informative
guide. There were 4 of us in the tour group so we had a great chance to ask
questions. The Capitol has been Restored back to its original condition and
they have done a wonderful job. It is one of the most beautiful Capitols we
have visited.7-20-08 -raynkaren@hotmail.com
