Situated in what Lewis and Clark called the ‘Prickly Pear Valley,’ the Montana
state capitol in Helena commands a dramatic view of its surroundings. Within
the dome, four paintings depict key figures from Montana’s history: the Native
American, the cowboy, the explorer/trapper and the prospector. Below, a statue
of Jeannette Rankin commemorates the first woman elected to Congress and her devotion
to peace even in the face of enormous opposition. 406-444-4789 General hours M-Sat. 8-5 May through September, tours offered M - Sat. 9 - 3, on the hour and Sunday 12 - 4 on the hour.
