In the Peace Garden State, only Bismarck has enjoyed the title of capital.
The current capitol was completed in 1934, during the height of the Great Depression.
Because of budgetary restrictions, many of the exterior ornamental features of the
Holabird and Root design were eliminated. This does not prevent the building from
clearly heralding its Art Deco roots, as you’ll see during your very enjoyable visit. 701-328-2480 Hours of the Capitol Building: Weekend hours available only Memorial Day - Labor Day When the capitol is open, guided tours are available on the hour. Closed all standard holidays in the winter; the capitol is open on summer holidays. Map to the Capitol Building in Bismarck Have you been to this capitol before? What did you think?
Share your comments with us! I was definitely surprised by this capitol. The exterior is not as
ornate or extravagant as others, but the interior is remarkable and very
unique. Certain parts of the interior remind me of an old movie theater or a
wonder place for a social gathering.
