The most elaborate element of the capitol is the Great Western Staircase, which cost over a million dollars to construct. It features richly detailed carvings, including the faces of 77 famous Americans, as well as friends and relatives of the carvers. Spectacular ceiling murals in the Governors Reception Room chronicle the states military history from colonial times to World War I.

Albany, New York is worth the travel... it is a great building to view and the photos do it no justice. To see it in person is hard to put into words.

One of the most unique capitols I have visited. This is one where I was very glad I went on a tour. The details are amazing.
