
The most elaborate element of the capitol is the Great Western Staircase,
which cost over a million dollars to construct. It features richly detailed
carvings, including the faces of 77 famous Americans, as well as friends and
relatives of the carvers. Spectacular ceiling murals in the Governors Reception

of each month at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. by reservation only; these
reservations must be made on the website (see below). During summer, tours of the Empire State Plaza are offered
