A highly regarded example of Greek Revival architecture, the Tennessee state house was the design of noted architect William Strickland, who considered it his masterwork. He was buried within the walls during construction, in a spot over the cornerstone. The striking and unique tower is modeled after the Choragic Monument of Lysicrates in Athens and many other elements within the building harken back to classical Greek themes.

The large walled areas around the capitol grounds are unique and quite impressive. Feels like a fortress overlooking the city and surrounding areas.
