A highly regarded example of Greek Revival architecture, the Tennessee state
house was the design of noted architect William Strickland, who considered it
his masterwork. He was buried within the walls during construction, in a spot
over the cornerstone. The striking and unique tower is modeled after the Choragic
Monument of Lysicrates in Athens and many other elements within the building harken
back to classical Greek themes. 615-741-0830 Please note that Tennessee does not participate in the Capitol Collection project
